TOLL SERVICE ATTENDANT

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Toll Service Attendant represents the Northwest Parkway Public Highway Authority in dealing with patrons in a courteous, professional and helpful manner. Provides drivers with available information concerning routes and area attractions. Registers toll transactions and collects toll amount from persons traveling on toll road. Makes proper change and issues receipts to patrons. Hand-writes operational reports reflecting toll lane and shift activity. Performs light maintenance tasks. TSA may be reassigned on a long term or temporary basis to other locations, other shifts, or other schedules, to balance manpower or meet the needs of the company.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Toll Collections: In a toll booth partially open to the weather, determines correct vehicle class, collects tolls, handles cash and makes correct change quickly and accurately. Verifies receipt of tour funds and restores fund to specified denominations. Performs duties in all weather conditions.
• Communication: Provides the customer with information and assistance as required. This includes giving directions, explaining AVI (Automated Vehicle Identification) applications, explaining and completing ISF (Insufficient Funds) forms, Express Toll Customer Service business cards and Citation Payments. Maintains a pleasant and professional relationship with all customers and fellow employees of Northwest Parkway. Uses telephone and/or radio on a daily basis to communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and Command Center
• Documentation: Quickly, accurately and legibly documents all lane closure activity, unusual occurrences, and provides all necessary information on ISF (Insufficient Funds) forms. At shift end, accounts for all funds collected and prepares cash deposits.
• General: Performs duties in all weather conditions. Opens and closes toll booth and bullnose gates as needed. Ensures safety/security policies and procedures are followed at all times.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Must be able to perform duties in all weather conditions.
• Use of stairs is required in certain locations.
• Requires regular bending and rotating at the waist, stooping, and repetitive functions involving shoulders, arms and hands for full shift.
• Must be able to lift and carry cash tray and/or moneybag weighing up to 25 lbs. from the counting room to the lane.
• Must be able to solve routine arithmetic problems counting and making change and accurately account for all revenue collected.
• Must be able to legally operate motor vehicle.
• Must be able to stand and/or sit for duration of shift.
• Must be able to take and make change correctly and quickly.
• Must accurately classify vehicles (visually count and enter number of axles).
• Must be able to repeatedly greet customers in a friendly manner despite periods of stress.
• Must know or quickly learn basic PC data entry for touring in, touring out, and deposits.
• Must be able to speak English proficiently to communicate with employees and customers.
• Must clean and stock tollbooth prior to relief.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
